CV/Bio
Judy A Freidel is a contemporary artist, whose allegorical and fanciful paintings defy a sense of time. Her colored pencil drawings tempt the real into the imaginary. The rich glowing colors of her work, seem to emit their own light, as a stained glass window would.
Judy also works in fibers, and although this is a more recent media for her, a BA degree in Art and minor in Home Economics with an emphasis in textiles, made it a comfortable one to explore. Her art quilts, like her drawings are whimsical and colorful. She enjoys the tactile qualities of fabric. The quilts often explore a third dimension and strech the boundaries between sculpture and two dimensional art.
Judy has been fascinated by drawing since she was a child. She studied art at the university of Central Arkansas and received her degree in 1977. Since then, she has worked as a free lance artist and explored several media. She dicovered colored pencil and now prefers it for it's ability to capture detail. She makes her home in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Judy is a member of The Colored Pencil Society of America and has participated in juried shows in the Midwest and the greater US. Her paintings and art quilts are in private collections.
